Overview of 2 West 67th Street

2 West 67th Street, also known as 70 Central Park West, is a distinguished pre-war cooperative building completed in 1919 by architects Rich & Mathesius. The 14-story structure represents a significant chapter in the Upper West Side's artistic heritage, originally part of a series of artist studio buildings that transformed West 67th Street in the early 20th century. Designed in the arts and crafts style, the building features roughly textured brick façades and delicately worked copper detailing instead of traditional projecting cornices.

The building contains 69 apartments, many configured as dramatic duplexes with double-height studios reaching 19 feet high. While originally conceived for working artists, it evolved to attract a broader range of affluent residents. Notable past occupants included travel documentarian Burton Holmes, whose apartment was modeled after Japan's Horyuji Temple, and authors Charles and Kathleen Norris.

Positioned directly across from Tavern on the Green in Central Park, the building maintains its status as one of the oldest surviving cooperatives in New York. The white-glove building offers full-service amenities including 24-hour doorman, concierge, live-in superintendent, storage facilities, and a roof deck with panoramic Central Park views. The lobby has undergone recent renovation.

The structure is part of the Central Park West Historic District and continues to be one of the area's most sought-after residential buildings, offering residents immediate access to Central Park, Lincoln Center, and numerous cultural institutions.

Sales History

Price/Room (Est)

Why are we displaying the estimated price per room?

For some co-ops, instead of price per square foot, we use an estimate of the number of rooms for each sold apartment to chart price changes over time. This is because many co-op listings do not include square footage information, and this makes it challenging to calculate accurate square-foot averages.

By displaying the price per estimated room count, we are able to provide a more reliable and consistent metric for comparing sales in the building. While we hope that this gives you a clearer sense of price trends in the building, all data should be independently verified. All data provided are only estimates and should not be used to make any purchase or sale decision.
